Dr. Alex Arts recently joined Michigan Otolaryngology Surgery Associates. He is a specialist in Otology and Neurotology - the specialties focused on evaluation and treatment of diseases of the ear and lateral skull base. Dr. Arts received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University, his M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine , and an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Washington. He completed a residency in Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Washington, and a fellowship in Otology and Neurotology at the University of Virginia. He is Board Certified in Otolaryngology, with sub-specialty certification in Neurotology. Prior to joining MOSA, Dr. Arts was on the faculty in Otolaryngology at the University of Michigan for 25 years and has published over 65 scientific manuscripts and book chapters in his field. He has served as an examiner for the American Board of Otolaryngology and has spent many years on the "America's Top Doctors" and the "Best Doctors in America" lists. His clinical focus involves all areas of adult and pediatric ear disease, including hearing loss, cochlear implants and other implantable hearing devices, chronic ear infection and cholesteatoma, balance disorders, Meniere's disease, otosclerosis and stapedectomy, and acoustic neuroma. He is a member of the American Otological Society, the American Neurotology Society, and the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery. In his spare time, he enjoys airplanes, hiking, and backpacking.
